Moise Kean: Juventus star suffers racist abuse against Cagliari win, but Leonardo Bonucci claims team-mate provoked fans
Leonardo Bonucci sensationally claimed his Juventus team-mate Moise Kean provoked the racist abuse he endured from supporters during their Serie A victory at Cagliari, insisting ‘the blame is 50-50’.Kean, who recently scored his first goals for Italy, was abused all night by sections of the the home support, with monkey chants aimed in his direction.Moise Kean held aloft his arms in celebration to his goal as he hit back at the Cagliari fans who racially abused him4

He took a stance of defiance after scoring a second goal late on, holding his arms aloft in response to the chants.Cagliari skipper Luca Ceppitelli went over to the fans behind the goal appealing for the chants to stop, while Blaise Matuidi appeared to gesture to Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri that he should take his players off. However, Bonucci says the 19-year-old forward should have ignored the culprits and acted in a professional manner.Kean knows that when he scores a goal, he has to focus on celebrating with his team-mates.“He knows he could’ve done something differently too,’ Bonucci told Sky Sport Italia.Juventus team-mate Leonardo Bonucci says Kean “provoked” the reaction4
Juventus team-mate Leonardo Bonucci says Kean “provoked” the reaction
There were racist jeers after the goal, Blaise heard it and was angered.I think the blame is 50-50, because Moise shouldn’t have done that and the Curva should not have reacted that way.We are professionals, we have to set the example and not provoke anyone.I prefer to talk about the great performance. We were aggressive on the wings, as we knew they could cause problems with crosses.”Kean’s team-mates attempt to take him away from the situation, on a night where he was abused throughout – with monkey chants a prevalent theme4

The Juve boss felt the teenage forward should not have responded to racist chants from the home stands with his goal celebration at Cagliari – but called for the “idiots” responsible to be handed lifetime bans.“He shouldn’t have celebrated in that manner,” Allegri said afterwards in his post-match press conference.“He is a young man and he has to learn, but certain things from the crowd also shouldn’t be heard.“As always in life, there are idiots who do stupid things and ruin it for everyone else.“I don’t think talking about it all the time helps. I don’t think halting play helps, because not everyone in the stadium did that.“We need to use the cameras, find those who are doing it and punish them. It’s very simple, identify them and not one-year ban or two, just give them a lifetime ban.”

Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini also had his day, vehemently denying the abuse received by Kean was racist.“If Bernardeschi had celebrated like that, he would’ve been treated exactly the same way by our fans. If Dybala had the same drama queen antics after the goal that Matuidi did, he would’ve been treated exactly the same way”, he said. The front page of Italian newspaper Tuttosport4

“I don’t want people to start being self-righteous about it, because I heard that already, whereas Juventus players came to me afterwards and confessed Kean was wrong to celebrate that way.“We cannot go around calling the entire Cagliari crowd offensive things. If there were racist jeers, then our fans got it wrong, but it happened because of the celebration and would’ve happened even if the goalscorer had a different colour of skin.”
