Newcastle United transfer news: Round-up of potential January signings including Brahimi, Arsenal target and TWO Liverpool players
Newcastle are set to make use of the January transfer window when it opens in just over a month. The Magpies are attempting to fight off the threat of relegation, and have started to make some progress having won each of their previous two matches to move up to 14th in the Premier League table.Things have started to improve at St James’ Park6
Things have started to improve at St James’ Park
However, serious questions have been raised over Rafa Benitez’s squad and their suitability for top flight football.Worrying doubts remain about Newcastle’s goal scoring woes, with the Tyneside club netting just nine times in their 12 matches so far this term.Newcastle are expected to use the transfer market to try and remedy these issues, and they’ve already been linked with making some moves when the window reopens at the start of the new year. But who will Newcastle be looking to sign in January? talkSPORT.com round-up some of the latest rumours concerning the Magpies’ impending transfer business…

Yacine Brahimi

Porto winger Brahimi has been linked with various English clubs for a number of years, and it now appears he will be heading to the Premier League. Newcastle are one of three teams, along with West Ham and Everton, said to be keen on signing Brahimi, either in January or when his contract expires at the end of the season.10. Brahimi is wanted by a trio of Premier League clubs, including Newcastle
The 28-year-old winger is a veteran of over 200 appearances across divisions in France, Spain and Portugal, and hes long been regarded one of Portos best players.Given Newcastles attacking struggles this season, it is not a surprise they are looking to sign a player who is sure to improve their firepower and creativity in the final third.

Miguel Almiron

It is not just the wide positions Rafa Benitez is hoping to improve, as Newcastle reportedly want to sign Miguel Almiron, the Atlanta United player. A midfielder who predominantly plays in the number 10 position, Almiron is widely regarded as one of MLS best players. He has scored 13 goals and created a further 13 in 35 appearances this season, and seems destined for a move to Europe. The Chronicle report Newcastle are interested in Almiron, with the Paraguay internationals agent seen at St James Park for last weekends defeat of Bournemouth. However, both Spurs and Arsenal are believed to be keen on Almiron also, with a report last month claiming the Gunners have already agreed a deal to bring the 24-year-old to England when the transfer window reopens in January.

Sebastien Haller

Prolific goalscorer Haller, a former France youth international, has been linked with a January switch to St James Park, though recent reports claim Newcastle have been priced out of a move for him. The 24-year-old has scored eight goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances this season, meanings hes just one behind his total for the entire 2017/18 campaign, whilst before moving to Germany he scored 51 goals in 98 matches for Utrecht of the Netherlands. The Magpies were linked with Haller as Rafa Benitez bids to improve their strike force in January, but the 24-year-olds agent appears to have killed any chance Newcastle have of signing him. Karlheinz Forster says only top clubs, such as Manchester City, Liverpool, Real Madrid, or Barcelona will be able to afford Haller.

Mattia Destro

If a deal for Haller is not possible, Newcastle have lined up an alternative – Mattia Destro. The Bologna aces reputation has gone somewhat downhill since his earlier years, when he was regarded as a future star, but hes still managed to score 25 goals across the last three years.Destro’s form this season has been nothing short of shocking6

Bologna are expected to allow Destro to leave in January given the 27-year-old has become a bit-play player, and Newcastle are alongside Sampdoria in the chase for him.Destro could be a relatively cheap option for Newcastle to sign, though doubts will be raised over his suitability for the Premier League given hes failed to hit the back of the net once this season.

Divock Origi

Another forward wanted by Rafa Benitez is Origi, who plays for his former club Liverpool. Able to play anywhere along the front line, Origi will provide competition at centre-forward as well as on the wings. It was claimed last month that Benitez has already enquired about the availability of the Belgium international heading into the January transfer window, with Origi expected to leave Anfield having been on the pitch for just 11 miunutes this season. It’s not been a good time for Origi on Merseyside6

The 23-year-old was highly-rated when he joined Liverpool but his reputation has nosedived since Jurgen Klopps appointment as manager, due to a lack of game time for the Reds and a poor loan spell at Wolfsburg. A move could be perfect for Origi to kick-start his career while still relatively young.

Dominic Solanke

While asking about the availability of Origi, Rafa Benitez is also said to have inquired about Solanke, another forward struggling for game time under Jurgen Klopp. The former Chelsea youngster is believed to be available on loan, but he is hardly the top class centre-forward Newcastle fans have been calling out for.Solanke has scored just ONE Premier League goal throughout his entire career, and hes not made a senior appearance this season.Thats hardly going to excite the St James Park faithful now, is it?Solanke is surely not the answer to Newcastle’s problems6
