West Ham striker Javier Hernandez is creating a “toxic” atmosphere at the club, an ‘insider’ has claimed.Hernandez, or Chicharito as he is commonly known, earns around 145,000-a-week making him the club’s best paid player by far.4

Hernandez has scored just ten goals in 43 appearances for the Hammers

The only other player to receive a three-figure sum is fan favourite Marko Arnautovic.Meanwhile, there is an ongoing saga surrounding the negotiation of a new contract for highly rated youngster Declan Rice.And Hernandez, who has started just two Premier League games this season, is said to be the subject of anger among the rest of the Hammers players.The signing of Hernandez in July 2017 was seen as a massive coup for West Ham with co-chairman David Sullivan claiming at the time the forward could be the “best player the club had ever signed.” However, things haven’t quite worked out that way with the Mexican scoring just ten goals in 43 games.According to an unnamed individual who appears on Twitter under the handle @ExWHUemployee, his continued omission is causing havoc behind the scenes.Speaking to The West Ham Way podcast, @ExWHUemployee said: “The problem weve got with him [Hernandez] is that hes our highest paid player and he doesnt play.“So that causes an issue with those players who do play regularly.“Just by having him there, on the bench, earning that money and not playing and scoring, other players start to think: well if this players on 145,000 a week, then I should be on that or more and so its almost becoming a little bit toxic indirectly by having him there.4

Arnautovic is West Ham’s second highest paid player but has enjoyed far more success than Hernandez

“And I agree we havent played to his strengths, weve made him play as a lone forward when I dont think he has the physique to play that.“Weve had this debate before about [Sergio] Aguero, but I think Agueros a stockier, more solid, robust player than Hernandez.“And if you look at any other player that leads a line in the Premier League, theyre all big, over six foot, stocky, powerful, so the system doesnt work for Hernandez.“However, theres chances. He had a chance against Huddersfield with the header that went just over. Theres chances and hes not taken them unfortunately, as much as it pains me.”4

Hernandez has scored two goals this season – his most recent strike coming against Burnley earlier this month

The 30-year-old has scored just twice for the Hammers in the 2018/19 campaign – against AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup and Burnley in the Premier League.His future at the London Stadium looked uncertain over the summer and his form is showing no sign of improving.@ExWHUemployee added: “Look how excited West Ham fans were.“We all travelled up to Man United wearing sombreros for that game [Hernandezs debut on the opening day of last season].4

“We were buzzing for that. And I was buzzing, I couldnt wait for him to sign.“But you look back and you think: okay, maybe it is time for him to go now in January.”
