Wolverhampton Wanderers secured a vital late point against Newcastle United as Willy Boly popped up to head home in the last-minute of stoppage time. The centre half stayed forward as Wolves pushed for an equaliser, heading home after an erratic cross from Adama Traore was fluffed by Martin Dubravka underneath his own crossbar.
4The Wolves players celebrate with Willy Boly after his late equaliserIsaac Hayden had stepped up to open the scoring for the visitors, who were happy to concede possession in the hope they could catch Nuno Espirito Santos side on the break. But it was the dramatic equaliser which proved to be the talking point. The goal was scored beyond the allotted four minutes of injury time, something which clearly incensed Rafa Benitez at the full time whistle. The Magpies move up a place to 16
th above Cardiff, while Wolves are still hot on the heels of the Premier Leagues Top Six.The hosts enjoyed the early pressure as Newcastle struggled to hold on to possession.
4Isaac Hayden gives the visitors the unlikely leadThere was a big penalty shout as Jimenez went down under pressure from Christian Atsu, but replays showed a touch on the ball to vindicate Graham Scott’s decision to wave play on, before Jimenez shot over moments later as the pressure continued to grow. The visitors were sloppy time and again in possession, but managed to get through to the break level, though Dubravka was called into action to deny Raul Jimenez.Salomon Rondon did have a free header that he wasted by directing it straight at Rui Patricio before Dubravka again was in the right place as the teams went in goalless at the interval.Against the run of play it was Newcastle who took the lead, through the unlikely source of Hayden. The midfielder was played in by Fabian Schar down the right-hand side of the box and hit his effort straight at Patricio, who should have done better but only diverted the ball into the back of the net with weak wrists. But it was the late equaliser which will make all of the headlines.Dubravka failed to deal with it and was beaten in the air by Willy Boly, who challenged fairly with the goalkeeper to head in and deny Benitez a crucial three points.
